Sportsmanship Tips by Sierra 116

A good sport is grateful of the caregivers of the caregivers of the course, field etc. He respects them and doesn't want to make their work harder, and treats everyone around him as he would treat himself (opponents, teammates, maintenance, cart guys, etc.).

Positive Mental Imagery website advises to "keep golf in a proper perspective to the rest of your life. Remember it is just a game" to be enjoyed.

Here are some practical tips to make the game even more enjoyable:

1) Breathe.  Do this before tee shots, other shots if you feel you need to. It relaxes you. Take four deep breaths when you are frustrated.

2) Play one shot at a time.  Focus on the shot not the score.

3) Have realistic expectations.  Don't expect too much of yourself.

4) Smile.  Just the muscle movement can lift your spirits.

5) HAVE FUN! Winning isn't everything!

I conclude with some words from 2 Timothy 2:5: "Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor's crown except by competing according to the rules."
